Therapeutic Ultrasound
When you hear the term ultrasound ,you may think of its application during pregnancy to visualize images of the womb-this is diagnostic ultrasound. Therapeutic ultrasound is a treatment tool used by chiropractors.
Therapeutic ultrasound involves applying a conductive gel to the area being treated which is then slowly moved in a circulation motion around the injured area for a few minutes. It utilizes ultrasonic waves that are converted into heat that penetrates deep into soft tissue.
This helps to:
- Increase blood circulation
- Decrease pain
- Repair soft tissue
Conditions treated include
- Muscle strains and tears
- Tendonitis
- Bursitis
- Sprains and ligament injuries
- Joint contracture or tightness
